Using LinkedIn and Google For Your Job Hunting
You want to increase your chances of landing a job before your girlfriend or wife leaves you for an old dog with money? (‘Just saw an old man with silver hair combed like Trump’s mop stopping by a liquor store with a young blonde who was about my young age of 30 in Hoboken. Note that he drives a Ferrari. ‘Bet you she used to have a boyfriend with a regular analyst job at Wall Street.) Build your profile at LinkedIn and learn how to search for a job via Google the right way.
A recent post by Jen Carpenter in Cheezhead entitled “hiring managers prefer linkedin” reported that “[a] recent poll from Jump Start Social Media found that three-quarters of hiring managers use LinkedIn to research credentials of job candidates.
“The poll, which was completed by Digital Brand Expressions and InterBiznet, surveyed 100 hiring managers at various sized companies on how they use social media in the hiring process.
“Of the hiring managers surveyed, 75 percent said they use LinkedIn, 48 percent said they use Facebook and 26 percent said they use Twitter to research potential candidates before making a job offer. When it comes to sourcing candidates, 66 percent of hiring managers use LinkedIn, 23 percent use Facebook and 16 percent use Twitter.”
Months ago a recruiter and a lady friend asked me about my profile at LinkedIn and I said I don’t have one. ‘Never thought of it as useful and was content with my information posted on traditional job boards, as in Monster, CareerBuilder, and Hot Jobs, among others. Now I’m on LinkedIn and have joined a network of several professional organizations to get the inside scoop on jobs and other developments in my profession.
Also sometimes you need to do extra work on searching companies, industries, and positions of interest. Most of the time information from the regular job boards is not enough to satisfy your curiosities or needs. Learn how to really use Google by going to the post by Willy Franzen in One Day One Job entitled “How to Use Google to Find a Job.” I can tell you how to do Google searches on my own, but I just don’t have the time to tell you everything I know. Thank God for the post by Willy Franzen. Otherwise people whom I promised a post about Google searches won’t be buying me shots of Coffee Patron anymore. So thank you Willy!
MORE JOB LEADS ARE COMING YOUR WAY ON SUNDAY (OR MONDAY)! Note that several job leads from more than one company will be definitely posted from Monday to Wednesdays from now on.
